Your assurance of quality

We believe in the old ways of doing business – the handshake, delivering on the promise made after saying “I will,” and treating our customers with the highest level of respect. But the new ways or disciplines — that assure the highest level of quality and efficiency – are added proofs that we seek to deliver value to our customers throughout the entire supply chain. Here are certifications which back up our promise to give each customer our very best.

ISO 9001:2008 certification

MFI operates under an ISO 9001:2008 quality management system, which aims to improve quality and customer satisfaction through a disciplined process of continual improvement. The system assures that:

  • A well-defined and documented process is created to improve the consistency of output.
  • Quality is constantly measured.
  • Corrective action takes place whenever defects occur.
  • Defect rates consistently decrease.
  • Defects are caught earlier and are corrected at a lower cost.
  • Practices that are obsolete or inefficient are identified and eliminated.
  • Documented procedures are easier for new employees to follow.
  • An organization retains or increases market share, increasing sales or revenues.

The ongoing benefits of ISO 9001 certification:

  • Consistent, repeatable processes and a common system that lower costs and improve quality.
  • Fewer problems with failures in service or product quality.
  • People know what to do and how you want it done.
  • Improvements in quality build customer satisfaction, enhance profitability, and grow sales.
  • Problems are fixed fast and eliminated, reducing waste and improving both productivity and profitability.
  • Better management control and reporting - which means that you know how your business is doing.

C–TPAT certification

Custom-Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT) is a program created to help guarantee the integrity of supply-chain management & operations. As a C-TPAT company we are able to reduce the high costs of lengthy delays caused by thorough inspections at border crossings.

The C-TPAT certification for foreign manufacturers is only available by invitation from the CBP. It is also a voluntary security measure that offers a significant number of advantages for the customers of MFI International.

In particular, the company also foresees the following benefits:

  • Client goods are completely secured from manufacturing plant to their final destination.
  • CBP provides priority inspections for its C-TPAT partners.
  • Fewer CBP inspections mean fewer border delays.
  • Access to the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) process expedites many crossborder shipments.
  • C-TPAT supply chain security training is available.

AAA maquiladora tax certification

A trusted Mexican manufacturing entity

One of the many benefits of working with a well-established cross-border manufacturing entity such as MFI is our familiarity and compliance with all Mexican regulations and requirements. We work within the Mexican legal system and take care to ensure that all of our dealings are compliant, so that our clients don’t have to worry.

An example of our ability to cost-effectively bring the benefits of Mexican manufacturing to U.S. clients is the Mexican Tax Law Reform which was enacted on January 1, 2015. Previously, all maquiladora companies which brought in raw materials and transformed them into completed products which were then shipped to the United States had enjoyed a blanket exemption from Mexico’s Value Added Tax (VAT). This exemption was to be eliminated completely, and a VAT of 16% was established for all imports.

Upon further review, however, a certification system was implemented which would reward certain companies for their compliance with all government trade and tax regulations with a VAT credit to offset the 16% levy. Because of our high level of integrity in these matters, MFI is proud to announce that we have been awarded the triple A certification (AAA), which is the highest level available. This allows us to pass on many more benefits to our clients. The Certification Requirements we were required to meet included:

  • Maintain sufficient inventory controls to track imported goods and raw materials.
  • Achieve a positive tax compliance opinion issued by the Mexican tax authorities.
  • Do not be listed on the Mexican tax authorities’ website as a “noncompliant taxpayer.”
  • Demonstrate that all personnel are registered with the Social Security Institute (IMSS) and provide documents showing payment of social security for at least ten employees.
  • Provide evidence of financial investment in Mexico.
  • Submit the names and addresses of clients and suppliers abroad.
  • Allow customs officials to carry out an initial inspection and any additional inspections, as needed.
  • At least 70 percent of the maquiladoras operations in Mexico in the previous year must be with suppliers that also have a positive tax compliance opinion.
  • A tax liability determination has not been assessed for at least two years.
  • A VAT refund request was not denied for more than 20% of the total VAT solicited within the previous year.

The Benefits of MFI’s AAA Certification

This highest level of certification entitles MFI to an immediate VAT credit for temporary imports. We will receive expedited common VAT refunds within 10 business days from our request date, and will be allowed sixty days to correct any irregularities. We will have the opportunity for a voluntary correction instead of an automatic audit in the case of any irregularity on the tax and duty declarations. Our certification is valid for three years.

All of this means that MFI clients continue to receive the highest in service, compliance and on-time delivery without having to worry about paying an additional Value Added Tax. Make MFI International your one-stop solution for low-cost manufacturing opportunities in Mexico.

The OEA (Operadores Económicos Autorizados)

MFI International, has achieved another milestone in its ongoing dedication to maintaining the highest levels of internal trade and security practices. The company recently received a vital global supply chain certification from the Mexican government recognizing its ongoing security levels for business partners. The OEA (Operadores Económicos Autorizados) certification is recognized by the world Customs Association and aligned international security protocols.

Formerly known as NEEC, this certification is Mexico’s equivalent to the C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism). Authorized Economic Operators may be manufacturers, importers or exporters, logistics companies that manage warehouses, brokers, carriers, ports, airport and terminal operators, or distributors.

Although certification can be an involved process, MFI felt it was worth the investment of time and resources involved. MFI is now placed on a list of trusted shipping companies. This step reinforces the company’s commitment to avoiding supply chain disruptions, reducing theft and damage, and expediting customs clearances, so that MFI can continue to be a trusted international supplier for clients.
